Starting the year with a clean slate
Part of my promises to myself this 2010 is to declutter. I actually started a few months back which I shared in this post (which BTW I am still selling these clothes. Hehehe!). So I checked out my closet and went through all the “trash” I’ve been keeping through the years…including old palanca letters, test papers, just letters and more, which have been collecting dust since I was gradeschool! Imagine that! I’ve been out of gradeschool for 15 years! HUWAAATTT??!!??
I’m sharing with you some tips from what I’ve learned from my decluttering session yesterday…
Start one box at a time
I was OVERWHELMED. Wow. Ang DAMIIIII!

Boxes! Boxes! (NOTE: See the ancient BAYO and Reebox boxes)

More Boxes! OMG! Waaaah!
I really thought I wouldn’t be able to finish anything at all. There were more than 8 boxes to inspect and go through. WOW. But I said to myself: Breathe and take it one box at a time. Start with one. Then after one, proceed to the other. It worked
Go through each item in the box
I went through each item to see which were keepers and just plain trash. I stumbled upon soooo many things, which I couldn’t even believe I still had like these…

My report card from Grade 6!

My table tennis racket and Dunlop balls

A poster of my gradeschool crush: EDWARD FURLONG!

Love letters from highschool! Notice the heart shaped fold there
Segregate items from the keepers and the real trash

2 out of 3 boxes. 1 box worth of trash out of the way

1 box out of 5 boxes. WOW! 4 boxes worth of "trash"
How did I know which were keepers from the trash? Well, I thought of things which were were keeping in the years to come: to remind me of my greatness, to trigger the good childhood memories, to revive and inspire my passion. Okay maybe some items which maybe of good monetary value after X number of years…
- First and foremost, all family items like loooong letters from my parents, greeting cards with substantial writing in it, pictures drawn by my siblings.
- Letters from friends with GOOD VIBES. All letters with bad vibes or which bring back bad memories ended up like this:

- Lastly, items which remind me of WINS such as:

a PERFECT term paper!

a PERFECT Statistics exam

Medals!!!
Prepare a bonfire for your clutter

Goodbye "Baggage"! Hello New Space
So hindi ako ang nagsindi ng bonfire. I enrolled the help of our household help to make the bonfire for me and dump all my “baggage” in. And now all were reduced to ashes.
YEHEY! In with the new in 2010
Happy 2010 everyone! Wishing you wais-ly for abundance, prosperity and profitability in 2010 and beyond
Live wais-ly,
Juana B. Wais

Thanks for the tips, Didi. Like you, I never threw things away and totally got annoyed at my dad – who was my opposite. But with age comes wisdom (ha!) and now I totally get him -what do I need a gown I used in college for(yellowed, no hope) and countless blue books (exam booklets)? Yes, they’re good to conjure up memories, or a few laughs, but since I hardly know that they are there, what they are doing is taking up precious space. Yes, de-clutter is the by-word, and congrats my dear, for getting a head start
