Stopping and being grateful for the Golden Showers
Okay, tama na ang intermission from my weekend sojourn in Batad, Ifugao, Broadway and commuting how-tos (wow dami na pala intermission!!!), so back to business on sharing my experiences as a freelancer, a person without a regular 9-to-5 (or maybe a 9-to-sawa job). Last week, I share with you the mindsets you need and the battles you will face when you give up your regular job. And now, I will share with you the beauty of working without a regular job. Just saying it actually makes me smile
There.
So what are some of these advantages you may ask? Here they are based on what I have and am going through…
I would classify these as what I would call psychological advantages because they are not tangible per se. I guess because they make you saner? Hehehe.
# 1: Decent Sleep
When I was at my regular job, I used to get an average of 4-5 hours of sleep a day. But today, I get to sleep 7-8 hours a day AND still get to accomplish all the things I need to do for the day. Talk about being alert and efficient.
# 2: Time to Cook
I enjoy cooking (simple dishes lang) as much as I loooove eating. So there are days that I end up cooking for one or sometimes for my whole family. I just enjoy trying out new recipes or coming up with whatever I can to make my tummy happy. Hehehe. There is a therapeutic element to cooking (and eating especially!) and it just sends me to Cloud 9.
# 3: Avoiding Rush Hour Traffic
I love it! I get to schedule my meetings not during the crack of dawn of office hours. I schedule them that way to just avoid the hassle of rush hours. And the travel time is slashed by at least half! My travel time from home to Makati used to take me 1.5 to 2 hours. But now, my travel time from home to Makati takes me 30 – 45 minutes tops. WOW! So I get more time to do other stuff like sleep or read or whatever…
Nice.
# 4: LESS Pressure from above
I don’t have a boss to report to. So nobody is pushing me, pushing me, pushing me…Well, it’s not that I don’t like having a boss. I am just accountable only for MYSELF.
So why less lang and hindi no pressure?
I try to put myself as the BOSS. So since I know myself better (I Hope!), I do know when to slow down and take it easy versus pushing me to get all panicky and stressed.
# 5: MORE time to daydream!
I love daydreaming! Don’t you enjoy projecting yourself into the future? I do enjoy thinking about my plans and fleshing them out to paint a pretty picture of what I really, really, really, really want for myself. Of course, to help me more, I make vision board to remind me of these dreams that I want, to make me smile in the middle of a down day and just give a spark of hope to the future to come
Though, of course, I do make sure that I have all my deliverables done before I start drifting off…Hehehe! Akala niyo ha! Baka puro daydreaming lang pala ako
Hindi naman!
So far, these are MY own major advantages. Hehehe. Do you have a different set of advantages?
